What’s included

Day 1 - Flying to Madrid

Your holiday begins at London Heathrow, where you meet the Tour Manager and fellow travellers before boarding your flight to Madrid.

On arrival in the Spanish capital, we transfer to our centrally located hotel on the famous Gran Via for a two-night stay. The remainder of the afternoon is at leisure to discover the city. Just a short stroll from our hotel is Puerta del Sol, the heart of Madrid, and within easy reach are three of the city's world-renowned art galleries: the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum, the Prado and the Reina Sofi, home to impressive collections of 20th-century art.

This evening, you're free to dine independently. Madrid is full of tempting options, from stylish cafés serving an array of delicious tapas to traditional restaurants offering local specialties such as paella, regional wines and a variety of cured jamón.

Day 2 - Exploring Spain's capital

This morning, we set out on a guided sightseeing tour, travelling by coach and on foot to discover Madrid's main attractions. Highlights include the city's historical buildings and the expansive El Retiro Park. Originally created in the 1500s for the Spanish royal family, these beautiful gardens are now a much-loved public space, enjoyed by both locals and visitors alike.

The tour continues past the impressive Palacio Real, or Royal Palace, still used for official state functions and home to an impressive collection of paintings, sculptures and antiques.

The afternoon is free to explore at your own pace. You might visit one of the nearby world-class museums, relax in a sun-drenched plaza or return to El Retiro for a peaceful contrast to the bustling city. The park is home to a boating lake and you're likely to come across street entertainers - from puppet shows to folk musicians - adding to its local charm.

Day 3 - Uncovering Seville on a guided tour

After breakfast, we journey by First Class rail into the heart of Andalucía, arriving in Seville for a two-night stay. After checking in to our hotel and some free time to enjoy lunch independently, we set out on an afternoon guided tour of the city.

Our tour takes us through the historic Santa Cruz district, a maze of narrow lanes and flower-filled courtyards, before reaching the centre of the Old Town to visit Seville's magnificent Gothic cathedral - the largest in Europe and an architectural masterpiece.

Afterwards, the rest of the afternoon is yours to enjoy at leisure. You might stroll along the banks of the Guadalquivir River or visit the Torre del Oro, a historic golden-hued tower that once served as a military watchtower and medieval prison. Alternatively, relax with a drink in one of the city's lively squares. This evening, we regroup for dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 4 - A day in Seville at leisure

You are free to continue exploring Seville at your own pace after breakfast this morning. Many of the city's most iconic landmarks are within easy walking distance, including the impressive Plaza de España, a stunning square filled with colourful tiled arches, ornate fountains and alcoves - built for the 1929 'Fair of the Americas'.

Another highlight is the Real Alcázar, or Royal Palace, a blend of Moorish, Mudejar and Christian design, with tranquil courtyards and intricate geometric tiles. Art lovers might prefer to visit the Museo de Bellas Artes, one of Spain's most important fine art galleries.

As the birthplace of tapas, Seville offers countless bars and restaurants where you can indulge in this beloved Spanish tradition independently tonight. You might also enjoy a flamenco show in one of the many venues in the Old Town. With shows usually starting late in the evening, booking ahead is advised.

Day 5 - To the Moorish city of Granada

Travelling by coach to Seville train station after breakfast this morning, we board a train to the Moorish city of Granada, our base for the next two nights. This city lies at the foot of the Sierra Nevada mountains and dominated by the spectacular Alhambra, dating from the 13th and 14th centuries.

Our explorations begin with a guided sightseeing tour, visiting the Albaicín, Granada's old Moorish quarter. This area is UNESCO World Heritage site known for its maze-like, narrow streets and whitewashed houses.

After our tour, you can enjoy time at leisure to continue exploring the city at your own pace. Explore the Moroccan-style tea gardens, bohemian bars and craft shops in the Albaicín district and admire views of the Alhambra from viewpoints like the Mirador de San Nicolás. This evening, you are free to dine independently, perhaps experiencing the city's tapas culture.

Day 6 - Granada’s breathtaking Alhambra Palace

This morning, we enjoy a guided visit to the breathtaking UNESCO-listed Alhambra. Once home to the Moorish leaders of Granada, this remarkable palace and fortress complex stands as one of the finest and well-preserved examples of Moorish architecture.

We explore the series of outstanding palaces adorned with intricate carved ceilings, colourful mosaics and ornate plasterwork. The tour also includes the beautiful 14th-century Generalife, the former summer retreat and country estate of the sultans.

After our visit, we return to our hotel with time to relax before dinner. This evening, we dine at a traditional restaurant, savouring authentic Andalucían flavours while admiring evening views of the illuminated Alhambra.

Day 7 - A guided tour of Córdoba and La Mezquita

We travel to Córdoba by coach after breakfast, the third of Spain's great Moorish cities. Once the largest metropolis in western Europe, Córdoba is a UNESCO World Heritage site renowned for its rich cultural legacy. Arriving around lunchtime, we check in to our hotel and enjoy lunch independently before setting out on a guided tour of the city.

Entering the Old Town, we cross the historic Roman Bridge and continue to the magnificent Mezquita - the city's remarkable mosque-cathedral and one of the greatest remaining works of Islamic architecture in the world. Originally built during the Moorish period, it was transformed after Andalucía was reclaimed by the Spanish crown and beautifully reflects the city's layered history.

Our explorations continue through the narrow lanes of Córdoba's atmospheric Jewish Quarter, where we visit the ancient synagogue, see the statue of the philosopher and astronomer Maimonides and discover hidden courtyards and other reminders of this significant era. This evening, dinner is at leisure, giving you the chance to sample Córdoba's local cuisine.

Day 8 - By rail to Barcelona

Leaving Córdoba after breakfast this morning, we travel by First-Class high-speed rail to the Catalan capital of Barcelona. On arrival this afternoon, we check in to our hotel before enjoying some free time to explore the city.

Barcelona is widely celebrated for the famous architecture of Antoni Gaudi, and our hotel is conveniently located near two of his masterpieces - Casa Milà and Casa Batlló.

In the Gothic Quarter, you may wish to visit the Picasso Museum, home to an extensive collection of the artist's early works. Alternatively, visit the city's botanical gardens, or discover Park Güell, famed for its colourful mosaic sculptures and sweeping views over the city. This evening, you are free to dine independently in one of Barcelona's many inviting restaurants.

Day 9 - Touring Barcelona & a private dinner

A guided tour of Barcelona by coach and on foot awaits after breakfast. After viewing the astonishing exterior of the Sagrada Família, we walk along the tree-lined boulevard of Las Ramblas and end our tour among the alleys of the Gothic Quarter.

If you would like to visit the interior of Sagrada Familia, you could choose to do this independently with free time this afternoon. Elsewhere, there are several neighbourhoods dotted along Barcelona's coast, including former fishing villages such as Poblenou, which can be reached by metro. Alternatively, the 18th-century residential area of Barceloneta exudes Catalan coastal charm, with leafy squares surrounded by bustling bodegas.

This evening, we head to an authentic 17th-century Catalan farmhouse, just outside Barcelona. Now transformed into a stately restaurant, we enjoy an excellent dinner of traditional dishes in a private room.

Day 10 - Boarding your cruise ship in Barcelona

This morning, you are transferred as a group to Barcelona port, where you say farewell to the Tour Manager as you board your luxurious Azamara cruise ship.

The friendly crew welcome you onboard and you are free to settle into your cabin and familiarise yourself with your new surroundings. Azamara's ships have a smaller capacity than most ocean and sea cruise ships, meaning these vessels can get closer to ports than their counterparts.
